Kyushu University is to host the 4th World Social Science Forum 25-28 Sep, 2018

7 10, 2018

Kyushu University is hosting the 4th World Social Science Forum (WSSF) in Fukuoka from September 25 through September 28, 2018. This is the first time WSSF, one of ISSC's flagship activities, will be held in the Asia-Pacific region. Among the principal speakers this year are: Sir Partha Dasgupta (Professor Emeritus of Economics, University of Cambridge) and Professor Craig Calhoun (President of Berggruen Institute; former Director of LSE).
A major focus of this year's forum is security and equality, currently one of the most pressing concerns of societies worldwide. Over the course of four days, the preeminent researchers from all over the world will examine various dimensions of security, asking how the demand for security relates to societies' quest for equality and sustainability. The participants will look into approaches, trends, and responses from different sectors. Other topics to be covered will include "cybersecurity," "human security," "gender equality," and "health, safety and biosecurity."

WSSF will gather globally active researchers, funders, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss important societal challenges, take stock of social science contributions and capacities, and make recommendations for future research, practice and policy. The three Forums held in the past have been highly successful, making this series globally renowned and influential.
