Student SDGs Promoter Organized a Seminar on "Refugees and SDGs".

December 24, 2020

On Wednesday, December 9, a seminar on Refugees and SDGs was organized by Student SDGs Promoter.

This seminar was held online, and simultaneously streamed via SNS. The lecture was given by Ms. Jajus Aleksandra, a Student SDGs Promoter from Department of Bioengineering of Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT). She gave a presentation with materials prepared in both Japanese and English that are mainly focused on the relationship between refugees and SDGs. The guest speaker, Ms. Parwana Amiri was an activist from Afghanistan who has published books based on her own experiences as a refugee. She talked about her actual experience of evacuating from her country, the present situation of refugees in other countries, and her experience of setting up a school (Wave of Hope for the Future) in the refugee camp with other refugees.

In Japan, the refugee problem is not often brought to one's attention in daily life, but it is recognized as an important problem in the world. Since the topic was highly relevant to SDGs, organizing this seminar was also valuable for Hub University in promoting the SDGs.

NUT will continue to actively support the activities of students and make effort to promote the achievement of SDGs as a team.
