Professor Dr. Masao Furuyama received Honorary Doctoral Degree in Architecture from Chiang Mai University

February 19, 2018

Masao Furuyama, President of Kyoto Institute of Technology was awarded an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Architecture by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindnhorn at the 52nd CMU Commencement Ceremony, which took place at the Chiang Mai University Convention Centre, on Tuesday, 23 January 2018.

This award is a result of a relationship that started in 2005, with the signing of an agreement of mutual academic exchange and institutional-level partnership; the two institutions initiated student exchange, short-term study abroad and academic conferences. In particular, marked achievements have been made through educational activities such as the "KIT-CMU Architectural Workshop" which consists of biannual mutual visits since 2011.

In addition, the "Chiang Mai University-Kyoto Institute of Technology Joint Master's Degree Program in Architecture" was launched in 2017. It is proving to be of great benefit to participants and has contributed to the creation of an international educational environment at both of the institutions. This program is the beginning of a system by which both institutions train and produce high-level international professionals, such as architects, engineers and researchers, who can apply their specialized knowledge and intercultural awareness.

President Furuyama gave a presentation titled "Art and Science", during his congratulatory speech at the Congratulatory Ceremony for Graduates in the Auditorium of Faculty of Architecture on Sunday, January 21, 2018.
