Visit to Germany (Overseas Partner Meeting)
March 30, 2018
Prof. Hisao Yanagi, Assoc. Prof. Takashi Matsuo and Assoc. Prof. Hiroharu Ajiro from Graduate School of Materials Science (GSMS) visited three partner universities in Germany from February 28th to March 4th, 2018, for the purpose of discussing collaborative research and student exchange possibilities.
RWTH Aachen University
On February 28th, the NAIST delegation visited RWTH Aachen University. First, the delegation visited the Graduate Research School and had a meeting with Ms. Malin Praktiknjo from the International Office. The NAIST delegation first introduced NAIST then discussed the internship program and the continuous collaboration in the future.
Next, Prof. Yanagi visited the Compound Seimiconductor Technology Laboratory, and had a meeting with Prof. Andre Vescan、Dr. Holger Kalischer. After that, Prof. Yanagi held a seminar inviting doctoral course students. At the seminar, Dr. Kalischer and Prof. Yanagi introduced their research, and discussed a research plan for a NAIST student who is now doing a lab-stay at RWTH, and another NAIST student who is to be sent from NAIST to RWTH from March 10. After that, Prof. Yanagi participated in a lab tour.
Assoc. Prof. Matsuo visited the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and had a meeting with Prof. Jun Okuda and postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Daniel Sauer. They discussed their research and research plan for a student who is to be sent from NAIST to RWTH from 6 March.
Assoc. Prof. Ajiro visited the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and had a meeting with Prof. Sonja Herres Paulis and a NAIST student who is now doing lab stay at RWTH. After that, Assoc. Prof. Ajiro, a postdoctoral researcher at Prof. Okuda's lab, and the student had a meeting together.
Following that, the NAIST delegation had a lunch meeting with Ms. Praktiknjo and discussed academic exchange in the future. In the afternoon, they held a seminar with two students participating. Prof. Yanagi introduced NAIST and GSMS, followed by a research introduction by Assoc. Prof. Matsuo and Assoc. Prof. Ajiro. The two students actively asked about the content of the NAIST GSMS internship program and about its application.

RheinMain University of Applied Sciences
In the morning of March 2nd, the NAIST delegation visited RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. They had a meeting with Vice Dean, Prof. Indlekofer, Prof. Pfeifer-Fukumura, Prof. Peter Dannemann, Prof. Michael Ballhorn, Prof. Friedhelm Schönfeld from the Faculty of Engineering, and Ms. Judith Hayer, Ms. Karina Ricci and Ms. Silke Shuster from the International Office. The NAIST delegation reported the NAIST current situation, followed by a discussion on the continuous academic collaboration in the future. In the meeting, there were proposals about the possibility of adapting a double degree program at the master level and holding a special lecture by a NAIST faculty. The NAIST delegation decided to consider it. After that, it was reported that three master course students will be sent to NAIST this academic year, and they are now applying for a PROMOS scholarship. The NAIST delegation decided to proceed with preparations so that the students can be accepted in the end of September.
