Special Faculty & Staff Development Seminar "Mastering the Art of Professional Presenting" in English conducted by guest lecturers or just remove inviting guest lecturers

July 08, 2019

As a sequel to the Faculty Development (FD) seminar "Dynamic Delivery and Powerful PowerPoints," held in January this year, a special Faculty & Staff Development seminar "Mastering the Art of Professional Presenting" was held at the Soka University Global Square on June 21st.

The seminar welcomed Prof. Beryl Hawkins who has extensive experience as a professional voice trainer, radio show narrator, and actress, as well as Prof. Barry Natusch who has taught at Asian, Australasian and Middle Eastern universities. He specializes in media and is also a documentary filmmaker. About 30 faculty, staff, and graduate students, including the University President Yoshihisa Baba and Vice President Maria Guajardo, participated.

Following greetings by Vice President Guajardo, Prof. Hawkins and Prof. Natusch took the stage for the seminar. To begin with, the lecturers introduced good and bad examples when creating PowerPoint slides, and discussions were held throughout the venue. Later, the participants divided into groups of three to four people, and they practiced making PowerPoint slides and presenting them. In closing, the lecturers gave each group feedback and advice, making the seminar something that could connect to the further success of the participants.
