Sakura Exchange programme in science with Dhempe College of Arts and Science

February 27, 2018

Toyo University invited 10 undergraduate students and a professor from Dhempe College of Arts and Science, India from February 2 to February 9, 2018.

The young students performed experiments with the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment at the Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre, Kawagoe campus, and they visited museums and a factory of JEOL Ltd., a major electron microscope developer. They experienced Japanese science, technology and actual manufacturing sites.

The participants from India also visited Hikawa Shrine in Kawagoe and Kawagoe Festival museum and experienced Japanese culture - Origami and the Tea Ceremony - with students and staff of Toyo University.

This visit was supported by the "Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science" (SAKURA Exchange Program in Science), of the Japan Science and Technology Agency, which aims at raising the interest of Asian youths toward the leading Japanese science and technologies at Japanese universities, research institutions and private companies.

It was the first time for all the students to go abroad. They were surprised by the difference in temperature and the snow which still remained on the ground.

On the last day, the students presented their accomplishments. The students received the Certificates of Achievement and a farewell party was held.

It was a wonderful opportunity for both Indian and Japanese students to enjoy and understand different cultures and recognise the similarities.
